SAFETY INFORMATION & GENERAL COURTESY
Players should be aware that, whilst the Committee takes every care to ensure the welfare of all users on the course, the ultimate responsibility for safety rests with the individual player. Players are reminded that this responsibility extends to all other players using the course.
In adverse conditions (mist, frost, heat waves, heavy rain, lightning, etc.) each player must assess whether, or not, in the interest of safety for themselves and other users of the course, it is safe to play golf. If it is not safe players should not go onto the course or, if play is already underway, they should look to leave the course as soon as a potential danger is identified. Whilst shelters are available on the course we cannot guarantee that these will be a safe refuge (e.g. in the event of lightning).
Proper golfing footwear should always be worn. Spikes, cleats or plastic studs should be checked for wear at regular intervals and replaced when necessary.
Care should be taken whilst on the course due to the fact that burrowing animals, birds, etc. make holes and scrapes. These can be overlooked and can be particularly difficult to see in long grass. Boughs of trees, brambles, stumps of trees and other undergrowth can be hazardous.
Stones interfering with play should be removed from bunkers (this is a local rule).
Do not play until the players in front are clearly out of your range. Please remember to be wary of players who may be in range but out of sight.
Do not play, or make a practice swing if anyone is standing close by, or is in a position to be hit by the golf club.
Call FORE! Immediately if there is a chance of your ball hitting someone. If you hear a call of FORE! Immediately turn away from the call, adapt a crouch position covering your head.
Follow all safety instructions on the golf course and buggies.
Report any accident or near miss incident to the club office at the earliest opportunity.
BE SURE – DON’T TAKE UNNECESSARY RISKS. THE ONUS IS ON YOU
LIGHTNING
If it is decided that it is unsafe to continue to play golf as a storm approaches, a klaxon will sound to call all golfers off the course and into the clubhouse.
If there is a risk of lightning play MUST be discontinued. The Club is not responsible for your safety on this matter.
You are advised NOT to continue play and NOT to seek shelter under trees.
Please note that golf buggies do NOT give protection from lightning.
Remove yourself from the golf course by the quickest possible route towards the clubhouse.
Lightning / Competition Play
Rule 5-7 as stated in the R&A Rules of Golf will apply to all competitions and matches where there is a risk of lightning.
In the eventuality of lightning and danger play WILL be discontinued, you must mark your ball position before lifting.
Play will resume if conditions change and are considered SAFE.
Where play has been suspended due to lightning, play must be resumed where it was discontinued, even if resumption occurs on a subsequent day.
FOG & ICE
The fact that the course has not been “officially” closed does not warrant that it is fit for play. Players have a duty of care not to behave in such a way that others may be injured by their actions. They also have a duty to take care not to injure themselves.
If conditions are foggy and you are unable to see where the ball is likely to land or ground conditions are such that it is impossible to judge how far the ball is likely to travel only play a shot that will land in view!
Playing in such conditions is dangerous – players do so at their own risk!
During Club Competitions a klaxon will sound to call all golfers off the course and into the clubhouse if play is to be discontinued.
GREEN STAFF/CONTRACTORS
Give way to the green staff in their work, they will move aside at the earliest opportunity and wave you through when safe.
Players are reminded that they should never play a shot into an area where Greens Staff/Contractors are working without being sure that they have moved to one side or have indicated that the players should continue.
COMPETITION REGISTRATION
By registering for any Competition you accept personal responsibility for your own actions and for any accidents or injuries to yourself or to others arising from your actions whilst playing in the Competition. The Club cannot be held responsible for any accident, injury or illness arising during play.
