Delamere Forest can boast many ladies who have
achieved great success in the golfing world and many who
have given much time and help at either County or International
level.
Most famous of all must be
Carol Comboy:
Carol played for Cheshire from 1968-1983 and was
Cheshire Champion on six occasions. She Captained Cheshire in
1973, was President 1991-1992 and is today a vice President and
Hon. Life Member of the County.
Northern Champion in 1974.
Captain of England in the Home Internationals
1975-1976 and Chairman of selectors in 1976. Non-playing Captain
of English side in European team.
Non-playing Captain of Great Britain and Ireland in
Vagliano Trophy in 1977 and 1979.
Non-playing Captain of English side in European
Team Championship in 1977 and 1979.
Non-playing Captain of Curtis Cup in 1978 and
1980.
Non-playing Captain of British side for Espirito
Santo (world team amateur championship) in 1979.
President of the English Ladies’ Golf Association
1983-1985.
President LGU 1992,1993 and 1994.
Vice
President England 1995.
Vice
President LGU 1996.
A
very proud day for both Carol and Delamere Forest was when Carol
went to Buckingham Palace to receive an O.B.E. for services to
golf. How richly this was deserved.
Carol Comboy held the Ladies
Course record, which lasted from
1964. Carol was playing off scratch at the time. Pictured above
Carol is still active and comes to the club regularly though no
longer playing, but still gives advice to those who are in need of it.

positions of high office listed above.

Jean Hughes
has also had an impressive International career. She was a Welsh
International in 1967 and 1971 playing in the European and Home
Internationals.
Captain of Wales in 1986-1989. A Welsh selector 1990 – 1998 and a
British selector 1994-1998 being Chairman in the final year. Jean
was Flintshire Champion on four occasions. She played for and
Captained Cheshire and was County Champion in 1978.
Jean
is the present County President for 2009 - 2010. She is pictured
above with Carol Comboy.
Sue Dye
pictured left
has played County Golf since 1986. She joined the seniors in 2006
and was runner up at Hillside in the Senior Stroke play Amateur
Championship. Prior to joining Delamere Sue was a member at Royal
Liverpool Golf Club.
It
really kicked off for Sue in April 2007 when she was the leading
qualifier with two 73’s in the English Senior Ladies’ Championship
played at Delamere.
Also
in 2007 she was winner of the English Ladies Senior Strokeplay
Championship at Northumberland and was winner of the Northern
Senior Ladies’ Championship at Ilkely, Yorkshire
In April 2008 she won the (match play) English
Senior Ladies’ Championship played at Stoneham Golf Club
Southampton and the following month won the Northern Senior
Ladies’ Championship at Brancepeth Castle.
In 2007 and 2008 she represented England in the
European Senior Team Championship and the International
Championship matches.
As a consequence of being runner up in the British
Championships in 2008 she has been invited to compete in the USA
Seniors Championship in September in Virginia USA, and the North &
South Seniors Championship at Pinehurst (N Carolina) in August.
She also won the Cheshire County Senior title at
Wilmslow - 2009.
Olivia
Briggs
was a junior International in 1998 and 1999.
Pictured left is Olivia Briggs in 2006, when she
came within a whisker of winning The Jones-Doherty Challenge Cup
on the prestigious Orange Blossom tour in Florida and also with
Stephanie Brody, Olivia is a current County player -
handicap scratch.
Delamere players have won the County Championship
on nine occasions and been runner up on eight occasions. Sixteen
Delamere ladies have over the years played for Cheshire.
Seven ladies have Captained Cheshire and four have
been County President.
